In 1858, in a cave below the town of Lourdes in the south of France, the Blessed Virgin Mary

appeared on 18 occasions to Bernadette Soubirous, a poor 14-year-old girl from Lourdes.

The first apparition took place on February 11 and the last took place on July 16.

In 2008, Lourdes will celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Apparitions.

The quaint European village of Oberammergau is world famous for the spectacular Passion Play performed by its residents just once every decade.
